I'm in San Diego for a conference. Since I come from the east coast, I don't get to see much in the way of D or S mintmark coins. Since I'm here, I went to the local BoA branch and even though I'm not a member, they were willing to sell me 3 boxes of cents. I was worried because they are totally sealed and don't have the array of holes on the top I'm normally used to. No need to worry, all 3 boxes are mixed and ready for searching. A good thing is that several of the tellers came over to see what the fuss was about, and even the manager. None of them have heard of someone obtaining boxes for roll hunting, so I hopefully no one has been through these previously. I'm sending them home in a flat rate box via USPS. Hey, if it fits it ships, right? Total weight is between 41 and 51 lbs depending on the ratio of copper to zincolns, but it is well below the 70 lb max for the flat rate box. Yay! Since there is some room left at the top of the box, I'm considering getting a 4th box and sprinkling some loose rolls over the top of the other 3 boxes.

You should get some nickels rolls to round out the 70 pounds.

Looks like you could fit the rolls in there of a fourth box. Then you wouldn't have to worry as much about it falling out in case the box gets damaged. Make sure you put tons of tape around the box to help keep it together.
I live on the east coast too and I've yet to find a 2012D from circulation for my album so I understand your frustration and the lengths you're going to since you're on the west coast for business lol.

Williamson, I first went to the bank in my hotel and they only had one box, which they were actually also willing to sell to me. However, it was the type I was used to with all the holes in the top. I noticed that the cents were all bright and shiny... You guessed it, 2500 brand new 2012 D cents. I thanked them but didn't accept it because I don't have much use for that many brand new coins. I'm sure there'll be at least a couple in the other boxes.

Good point Captain about the nickels. I'm going to see if the closest bank has a couple golden dollar rolls too. I'm still missing 5 or 6 Denver presidents.

Williamson, there's at least 5 decent 2012-D's in these boxes.

I figure I'll find one in a roll eventually. After all I was able to get 2010 & 2011 from circulation without a problem

Not a bad idea at all - just out of curiosity, how much did it cost you to ship the box?

Wow, never seen clear rolls before. Lots of tape for sure. I've had 68 lbs shipped to me before. The mail man thought it was lead weights for fishing.

He's sending them priority flat rate so it should only cost him about $5-6 since it's less than 70lbs

I would pay twice that so I wouldn't have to lug em around, lol.

Sorry guys, haven't checked this thread in a while so I missed your questions. Short answer - The actual cost for the shipping was about $12, but I added tracking and bought a roll of tape, so the total bill was about $17. Long answer - When I first went to the post office in San Diego to pick up the flat rate box, the woman behind the counter said the weight limit was 70 lbs for the medium square box (5.5 x 8.5 x 11 inches). I only picked up 3 cent boxes instead of 4 because it was so heavy to carry to the PO. I taped everything up, brought it to the same woman who answered my weight question the previous day and she said it would be $28! I told her that she said the weight limit was 70 lbs. She said that's what she thought it should be, so she went to ask her manager. The manager came out and said she also thought it was 70 lbs. She (manager) asked me if I had ever shipped anything this heavy in this type of box before and did I have any trouble doing it. Thinking quickly I said, yes I have and no I have not had any trouble before because the limit is 70 lbs. The manager told the counter woman to override it and enter it manually. I thought this box was supposed to be $14.95 or so, but when she told me the total bill was a little over $17, I didn't ask questions. (Tracking was $1.15 and the tape was $3.95, so it was obviously less than the $14.95 I thought it should have been.) I high tailed it out of there before anyone asked any questions. The package actually beat me home. I was in BWI airport on Friday afternoon talking to my wife while waiting for my connecting flight and she said the postman had just left the box on the front porch. (I shipped it Wednesday morning.) I've only gotten through one of the boxes so far. I've found a couple better Denver cents than the ones in my album, so they got replaced. I haven't even gone through this first box to check for errors yet through. Lots of family commitments taking precedence. This may be anal, but I have some plastic boxes with multiple bins in them. I sort a box by year, then I go through each year keying in on the known errors for that year, as well as looking for errors in general. One thing that I did notice is that there are significantly less Philly cents in this box than Denver cents in the boxes I get here in upstate NY. Out of the 50 rolls in this one box I probably got less than 200 Philly cents (~4 rolls). I'm not complaining, just an observation. Also, only 6 Wheats and 2 Canadians. But there was a decent looking 1977 Republica de Panama Un Centesimo. I'm guessing that's a Panamanian 1 Cent. One last thing, there are a LOT of homeless in downtown San Diego. On my way to the PO with 7500 cents in my bag, one asked me if I had any change. I replied, "If you only knew." I handed him a Kennedy half (I had brought a roll with me) and it just about blew his mind. "Haven't seen one of these in years", etc.
