To CCF!

I'm not sure if it is a lamination, Retained Cud or just damage? No help...I know. Someone will be able to help shortly....

Thanks for the welcome!
Though I've collected coins for a long while, I never took the time to understand them. I know that's a large piece of Cud. But it's been stamped on like the rest of the coin which for me raises questions. But it's the break at the top that runs across the rim and onto the reverse that I wonder about the most and know nothing of. So hoping some knowledgeable people might gander a guess or two?

This one's a tough call. Although it *could* be contemporary damage which has worn into the look, I'm inclined to believe it's originally a lamination.

OK the variety is N-1. It is a late die state because in the late state N-1 develops a thin Cud over stars 3 to 5 which appears to be present on this coin. From the reverse and edge picture I do believe there was a planchet problem when the coin was struck, but I am surprised that what appears to be a cracked planchet with a void on the reverse would have kept the obverse from striking up. This would be an interesting piece to see in hand.

What you have is a really interesting coin.

And is it not amazing that there are highly experienced experts on this forum who are willing to share? wow.

From my observations over time, the 'liquid' value (quick ebay sale) is that of a worn out damaged coin. On the other hand, there are true experts out there that really care about things like this... maybe there could be a higher dollar value to the right collector...

But I think the greatest value might be the "conversation introduction" to the guys who know a whale of a lot about a lot of things... what you can learn is sometimes invaluable

my humble opinion, having learned so much here.
