I have a 1910 S Barber half dollar. It has the capitalized letter "W" stamped on the face of the Liberty head, just above the ear and left of the eye.

Can anyone explain what the "W" signifies ?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Coinsforsale555

The "W" is for Wonka...you've won a special trip to a chocolate factory, congratulations...

The only one who knows or knew is the one who stamped it.

Not being flip. It sounds like a counterstamp. Common, could have a reason or it was just done because the person felt like doing it.

I'd take what's behind curtain #2. Forget the trip to the chocolate factory. I've seen what happens there.

I've heard reference to stamps such as this on coins as being 'chop marks'. Could this be what happened?

I do not believe Barbers circulated in the Far East.
