Hi I found this in a roll of pennies yesterday 2006 penny that has a chip in it I am wondering is this from mint or was someone just really mean to this poor penny? Thanks

From the picture, it look to be a clipped planchet error from the mint

It looks more like PMD to me but I am far from an expert on these things.

Note that the rim is intack. I would think that this is just PMD due to that rim. If it was a clipped from the Mint, there should be no rim there.

I cannot be completely sure from your picture but it looks like zinc is exposed at the clip. If so, then it is just damage since the plating is done after the blanks are punched from the metal stock.

It's hard to tell 100%, but the exposed zinc part looks kind of rough to be a clean planchet clip.
