Poll Question
I won this item 23/7/12.
I kept my bid below the $27 limit so that I could take advantage of the $5 shipping the seller listed in his/her description, However after 4 emails regarding this the seller refused to send me an invoice with the $5 shipping and insisted on charging me $20 to send an item that weighs
5.56g
The seller then opened an unpaid item case.
I have paid for the coin AND the ridiculous $20 postage.
I feel very angry that this seller has manipulated the system to force me to pay the exorbitant shipping fee.

SO the poll is which category of feed back should I use and what would be your comments be if this situation was yours

Poll Choices
 good feedback
 Neutral feedback
 Negitive feedback

Before I vote gotta make sure I understand this right. Was 5 dollar the standard shipping he had charged and then because it was an international shipping he charged 20 or did he just do that to get more money?

If you have the package what did it say the actual shipping cost on the postage?

The shipping should have been $5 as the auction price was below the $29 thresh hold and not $20 as charged.
I sent this seller 4 emails regarding the shipping costs and they didn't have the decency to even answer me, they just filed for an unpaid item case.
This to me is extortion and quite rude or dishonest on their behalf.
I have NEVER failed to pay for any item I have bid on.
I have a suspicion that this seller is also a member of this forum as I found the listing via the Aussie coins for sale ( ebay) on this page.
If the seller IS a CCF'er it would be nice to get an email or a PM explaining your actions in regards to this sale
At the moment this sellers feedback rating is about to take a drastic nosedive unless I get a satisfactory explanation

I would have contacted ebay about it. I could understand if the 5 was for domestic shipping and the 20 was cus it had to be shipped overseas, but it sounds more like he didnt like how low the coin sold for and decided he was going to add some money to it.

Id wait to get the package for feedback, if that postal label doesn't say the shipping cost dam close to 20 dollars Id go to town on the feeback and ratings especially if it says it cost 5 dollars

Won't have anything to do with who the seller is - we're pulling random sales from ebay which fit the criteria of the link.

Either way, if the seller advertised $5 shipping and then charged $20, you have a slam-dunk case.

Thank you for that Dave
It makes me feel a whole lot better that this isn't a CCF member

I agree with your assumption that there may be a "sellers remorse" situation here.
However that doesn't justify using the "non payer" claim in an attempt to force my hand before having the common decency to reply to my numerous emails to try to explain the reason for the shipping hike.
The ONLY reason I paid this "Person" (Via Paypal) is to maintain my good standing with ebay AND to gain access to Redress via feedback.
I doubt that I will ever see this coin and will eventually have to go through the long drawn out process of getting the funds back via paypal claim.
I will await further developments and act accordingly

Which is exactly why you should have contacted them right away.

If a seller advertises one shipping fee then tries to charge another, unopened buyer case or not ebay will put a stop to it and end the case. If a message is in your inbox such as the invoice ebay can access those messages or you can forward it and that would be all the proof you needed.

Either way hopefully you at least get your coin

Trout, about a year or so before I've come across a similar seller who charged me $26,95 for a 13-14gr. coin from the States to Turkey. I paid the ridiculous shipping amount, and sent several complaining emails to the seller, none were replied. After about a month, I did not receive anything (surprising?) and I've emailed the seller again... and again, no response. I've opened an unpaid item case, and within minutes my inbox is flooded with emails from the seller, some threatening, some pathetic, etc. The saddest part was, the seller wrote me an email, complaining how his sisters are treating him in a very bad way!! so, caveat emptor, some people are really nuts and it's best to avoid them. The old yankee saying goes "if it quacks like a duck, then it is a duck" if it sounds like a rip-off then it is a rip-off.

Link to auction, please. While I don't doubt your story, I do feel reading the auction listing is a prerequisite to forming an unbiased and informed opinion.

And it sounds like a slam-dunk case, but the auction link would give me some more context.

How was he shipping the item? It costs me to ship a small flat rate box anywhere in the U.S $5.15. If I were to send the same box to Australia it would cost $16.95. When I have sent things overseas, I have always charged more for shipping. Most of the people overseas have emailed me before bidding/buying to ask what it would cost to ship the item there. He still should have emailed you until you two could come to a resolution.

What I'm expecting to see in the completed auction is that the seller had tiered shipping expense based on final value of the item sold. If up to $27 meant $5 shipping, as long as an exception for international shipping is not noted elsewhere, it was a seller error and he should eat the cost of his mistake and ship for $5. I've seen many members here who sell on ebay state that they've eaten expense for mistakes and sometimes just as a way of doing business, even if it's not their fault. This one sounds like it's all on the seller, and the listing will probably prove it.
