Twenty Cent Piece: 1875 CC Vs 1876 - Coin Community Forum

jefftodd34 New Member United States 26 Posts	Posted 07/27/2012 02:23 am Can anyone shed some light on why the 1875 CC (Mintage 133,290) Twenty Cent Piece is more expensive than the 1876 with a mintage of only 15,900? For that matter, it's also more expensive than the 1875 with a mintage of 39,700. I'm building a key date type set. Which 20 Cent Piece should I include? Report this Post to the Staff

january1may Pillar of the Community Russian Federation 5174 Posts	Posted 07/27/2012 06:13 am The key date for 20 cent pieces is of course the 1876-CC... the same way the Flying Eagle cent key date is the 1856, or the Barber dime key date is the 1894-S. Pretty much no chance of ever getting one. If that's indeed beyond your price range, take an 1877 or 1878 And yes, I agree this has to be due to the CC mintmark's desirability (though possibly more were melted as well). They're certainly not hard to find, just price-inflated due to the relentless demand. I'm on the lookout for a nice 1876 twenty-cent piece. Somehow since it doesn't have the same date as the common 1875-S it appeals to me. I think it might be undervalued and potentially a good choice for a quality collection. I'll keep looking!
