07/23 23 BC Augustus is granted his first tribunician power. It took several years for him to determine the exact framework by which a formally Republican state could be led under his sole rule: the resulting constitutional framework became known as the Roman Empire. He was the first emperor and ruled until his death in 14 AD.

07/25 306 AD Constantius I dies at York, after having campaigned extensively along the Rhine frontier and past the Antonine Wall. He also was the father of Constantine the Great and founder of the Constantinian dynasty. His death sparked the collapse of the tetrarchic system of government inaugurated by the Emperor Diocletian.
