I picked this up a while back for not much over melt value. It has nicks on the rim at 11:30 and 4:00 but has no bend at all, no matter how much I try to find it.

If this were TPG'd, what is the likelihood it grades as damaged?

If it werent for that little chunk out of the top part of the coin,I dont believe they would grade it as damaged...But since it is there,I think they will...JMO!!

Regardless of whether this would not get an actual grade or not because of a couple of rim nicks it would still be worth sending it in just to get it authenticated. Lately I have seen more fake gold dollars popping up.

IMO, it would come back as damaged due to the rim. That being said, I agree with Gyrene as having it authenticated would be a plus. I don't know if all of those marks are scratches on the coin, some on the reverse appear to be die breaks. Not an expert on these coins at all, but I think you did good with it.

Looks like the die clashed.

Her nose ended up in the D in Dollar.

I think it would grade, at least a detail grade.

I think it would be more likely to come back with a details grade than not. At the price you paid, I think you did well. Nice die clash!

Thanks guys, I hadn't even noticed the die clash until you pointed it out, but once you did it is pretty much ...as plain as the nose on your face.

There is not a doubt in my mind that it is authentic and it isn't going anywhere so not worried about getting authenticated. I was just curious if that was a several hundred dollar ding or not.
