Got this in the wrong forum to start.

I picked this up a while back for not much over melt value. It has nicks on the rim at 11:30 and 4:00 but has no bend at all, no matter how much I try to find it.

If this were TPG'd, what is the likelihood it grades as damaged?

Sorry, I can't provide much expertise on the outcome of a TPG submission, but to get THAT coin at not much above melt is simply spectacular. Even if it did come back as damaged, having it authenticated would probably net you 200-300% on your submission fees.

It was a small estate auction. My heart was beating pretty good. It was one of those situations where you just want the auctioneer to stop talking and say "Sold.".

Ithought about carrying it around in my pocket for a while to see if I can wear the rim down enough so the nick goes away.

They tend to be more generous with old gold, particularly dollars as they tend to be damaged or cleaned. it's a relatively small ding and in person, probably isn't that noticeable, but to me it would probably come back as damaged. I've seen a bunch on Heritage with details grade, and honestly, some I don't see anything wrong with them.

Type 2 G$1 are more desirable and your coin has exceptional detail for the date. Great pick up!

That coin has got some heavy die clashing on both sides, great coin. The nick might give it a details grade but I think this is still worth getting slabbed. Nice AU coin with some luster.
