This is just so funny I had to post it here. Maybe if everyone sent him an email asking him for quotes or any other useless info he'll think twice about trying to rob people.

I had a guy offer me 6x face for silver the other day. So generous.
I laughed in his face. I really hope that people like that end up paying thousands on some fakes.

I always offer spot on coins when I buy from cl. Even that is hard to get any sellers. I have only had one guy who wanted to sell me anything other than junk

The ugly part of this is that there are a lot of elderly people out there who have had US junk silver coins in their possession for many years and do not know what the value of these coins is. Being offered 6-10x face may seem good to them. Charlatans, like some on Craigslist, prey on these folks, offer super low-ball prices, and probably manage to rip off a few people now and then to keep the scam going. Yes, it is pathetic and unfortunate but it happens.

Ed_b is right, they are most likely trying to get someone that doesn't know what they have.

In my area, there is someone who periodically posts on CL what silver coins are worth. I'm not sure if it is out of the goodness of his heart trying to help people out, if he is a dealer, or if he has been scammed himself. In any event, after it is posted, the garbage offers seem to be less frequent.

That's a great idea. Thanks for bringing that up. Maybe we all should do that on our local Craigslist web sites?
