AA, On the first 2 Rev pictures, what is peeping out under the H of shilling? I can't see it on the subsequent pictures, just the first 2.

I guess it could be a Die Polish Line. Or is there really nothing there at all and it's just an optical illusion?

Nice coin anyway!

Nancy there is a tiny die crack coming out of the bottom of the left hand leg of the H, is that what you mean ?

Yep, that's it. Thought I could see something. I'm not sure it's a die crack though. Just above the cross bar, it looks like there's another tiny bit showing through and I think that if it was a die crack, the lines would be on top of the H, not coming from underneath it, that's why I thought it was more likely a DPL.

I took the liberty of doing this:

Yeah there's definitely another little bit above the cross bar,i take it it's like a slip with the tool they use too engrave the letters out that does this ?

I'm so disappointed in my inability to recognise this coin as being cleaned,i really need to think about whether to continue collecting at all.

Don't get down-hearted, it's all a learning experience. What indicates to me that it's probably been wiped is the number of parallel lines in the obverse fields behind the king's head and in and around the emu. When you're looking at a coin you have to hit it with light and rotate it and tilt it continually. If there's any hair-lines they'll pop into appearance at some point as you tilt and rotate the coin. I can pick most cleaned coins but I can tell you I am glad that PP is sitting next to me sometimes because she spots things I do not and vice versa.
