The one with the dots before and after Half Penny was struck in Bombay, India. The one without was struck at Melbourne, some (not 1943 though a pattern may exist) have a dot after the Y but none before H, these were struck at Perth.

Thank you jbuck, I'm a newbie and kind of unsure as to what goes where..

Wwwww, I had a feeling that may have been the case as they are the only two 43's I have with an 'I' under the head on the obverse. does the fact they are struck in Bombay make them worth stashing away in my little hoard?

Neither of the 1943's are worth very much at all in average condition because of the huge mintage. If these are the only two you have then theres no harm in keeping them until you can upgrade. Your examples are free from verdigris and any huge detracting marks.

The 1943 melbourne can be had in UNC for $25-40. Not having my catalogue I wouldnt be able to tell you much about the value of the indian coin.

Thanks enworb,

I may need to purchase one of these catalogues at some stage I think! :)
Im amazed at how quickly the bug has got me with collecting, my partner is in two minds about it tho, I spend hours at night trolling the net for info with a cold coffee next to me and a blank look on my face, I think he enjoys the peace tho ;)

If you're looking at catalog's then for Australian coins I'd suggest McDonald's pocket guide.

The prices quoted can be a bit excessive in some cases, but data/content wise regarding the coins he is pretty spot on.

Usually there is a new edition each year and can be had for $30-$40.

I am yet to buy a catalogue, just perpetually loan a few from public libraries. I your library doesn't have a copy of macdonalds or rennicks then ask them to buy it and they most likely will for you. Getting your hands on a catalogue is essential!

The collecting bug got me very quick as well. One day I had no idea and the next coins was all I could think about. I'm sure there are quite a few in that boat. Good to have you onboard.

my brain is currently on information overload! who knew there where so many errors, hot coins etc!
a nicely kept little secret. mind you I'm still blown away over a Cud error on a coin, haha.

thanks again :)
