Trajan-Ae-As.---Victory-SpQR

Trajan AE As. IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM PM, laureate head right / TR POT COS III PP SC, Victory walking left, carrying shield inscribed SPQR. RIC 417, Cohen 628. Sear 3242.

AE As., 27.55mm, 9.9g

Moving on from the unpleasant shipping experience...

This is one rugged coin. It's been beaten down and yet it survives with decent detail!

It's hard to notice from the scan, the coin is bent slightly from top to bottom on the obverse. It was difficult to weigh the coin because of it. The coin also has a crack as a hairline on the obverse, it's larger on the reverse and goes all the way through (doesn't look like it was repaired). On the obverse portrait, there is a small thick layer of patina removed, was replaced by another thin layer as well as sand. There are also iron rust deposits on the back of the coin.

I was reading RIC Volume II about this coin. If I'm understanding what I'm reading I narrowed down the date to about 100 AD.

Great coin--it has personality!
I can only guess it was bent in ancient times...
