Hey guys, So its been awhile since I've posted, but I am all moved in and settled here at the Uni. I went to the bank today and I decided to try my hand at noodling (Im pretty sure thats what you call it here). I just told the tellers I was doing a project about statistics . Anyway here are my finds for 100 dollars. My question is: what should I be watching out for, whats a good find, and do you have any recommendations. Comms: 1 1970 Comm 1 1981 Royal wedding? 1 2001 Norfolk Island 1 2001 Queensland 1 2001 NSW 1 2002 Outback 2 2004 Student design? 2 2003 Volenteers 2 1977 Silver Jubilee 4 2005 Secondary School 5 1995 Weary Dunlop 6 2005 WWII 7 1998 Bass and Flinders 8 1982 Brisbane Games 8 2000 Millenium 10 2001 Centenary Non Comms 2 69 2 71 2 74 3 75 2 76 3 78 3 79 3 80 7 81 7 83 2 84 7 96 11 99 2 04 22 06 12 07 17 08 9 09 9 10 3 11 Sorry about the messed up order for the comms. Also According to my book the mintage for 2009s is rather low. Somewhere in the 19k range? Is that correct? If so does that make it a potential key date? On another note: My new project also includes a Florin set starting 1910 and going consecutively up each week. I already have the 1910 and 1911. Any hints/ advice? Thanks, Jon

There is some good info summarised here: https://goccf.com/t/124691With the millennium you find you should always check for a incuse variety. A simple search in CCF for 2000 incuse will surely show you good pictures and a description. The two holy grails in my opinion are the 2000 $1/10c mule and the wavy 1966 20c. Again searches will teach you all about them. The florin set will be very hard at the start (depending on the grade you decide on) but will only get easier once youre past the early/mid KGV years. Keep us up to date on the set progress.

Non Comms 69 and 74 is a Low Mintage - I would keep them.
Comms check the 2000 Millenium coins for incuse 1981 and 1977 seems most people keep them

Good work Jon. Found yourself a few in that lot. I'd keep any of the 2001 Federation States coins - the Federal one is common - and check the 2000 Millen. for Incuses did you? They are still out there to be found. 1991 RAM coin is a good one to find, if you ever get one - they are pretty scarce in circ. The 2000 Royal Visit is also another keeper, though I find these damaged all too often...the scratch marks made by rolling machines really show up on this coin As for Coat of Arms reverses, the 1985 is the key one, and 1993 also fairly scarce. You are in NSW, yes? Do look out for 2010 COA coins with a rotated die; these seem to show up in NSW.... If you have a couple of banks close to you, use one to get coins from and another to deposit the coins back into - then you shouldn't get the same coins you'd just gone through. Presumably they have the coin sorting machines where you are? They are a good way of getting 50 cent coins, as they come in $200 lots, and I've had a number of bags which have more nice commems than usual, due to someone emptying the piggybank or giving up on the 50c collection!!

Also I would check your 79 and 80 for the Double bar.

Welcome to Oz! Must make for a difference to find nothing less than nickels in circulation and plenty of half dollars ;) In addition to the previous comments, I would say that the 2001 Federation States are generally worth keeping with a mintage figure of around 2 million each - also 1985 and 1993 Coat of Arms with just 1 million each. Full details here. Definitely would recommend checking your 2000 Millenniums for the Incuse variety as these DO show up in circulation.

Thanks everyone! Sadly I did not find an Incuse. It took me nearly an hour to even figure out what to look for. After that, I thought I had one but no luck. O well maybe next time. I'm probably going to start an album of them and maybe try to spend the rest? I'm not sure how to get rid of all of them because I only have the bus system to get around and I'm not sure of any coin counters in the area. Do banks take rolls and if so where do I get them? I may just flood my campus with coins Im NSW (Macquarie Uni) so I will have to keep an eye out for that rotated die. Thanks Penny for all the helpful hints and enworb for the link! FNQ: Thanks! Its certainly different. I was secretly hoping to find a 1966 while searching. Is that even possible? But it is nice to see a circulating 50c piece.

If you go to your bank ask for some coin bags they will give you some. You put $10 of 50c in each one, take them to the bank where they will weigh them and then give you cash or let you deposit.

I think ozcoins found a 1966 in an armaguard roll a little while back. I've given up all hope.

Quote: I think ozcoins found a 1966 in an armaguard roll a little while back. I've given up all hope. There'd be no hope of finding a 1966 50c in a coin machine bag, as it is not one of the standard sizes/formats. You'd have to try teller-packed 50c bags in the $10 lots - and hope the tellers aren't coin collectors - nobody is going to willingly put in a coin worth $10 in the 50c bag... There may be a chance with the security company rolls, though. Appears ozcoins found his in one of them. I've had a round 50 cent in a chubb roll - heart beat fast for a couple seconds till I realised it was just a kiwi 50 cent piece...

I have found a 1966 50c in a Chubb roll, but even though it has happened for me, I think the chances of that happening are pretty remote. At a guess maybe the same as getting a 1986 50c which has also happened, but again I would not count on it. The machines I return coins to are very sensitive to the wrong coins and even coins that look ok to me have been rejected repeatedly (it has just occurred to me that maybe I should have looked at them more closely to figure out why). On the other hand, just about anything seems to successfully end up in Chubb rolls. I have had a rounded off normal 50c, round NZ 50c and bent coins in 50c rolls. I have also had a misstrike and bent coins in 5c rolls. The bank has recently changed to getting coins from Armaguard in bags. I dont think I have seen any abnormal coins in those bags yet.
