I get the feeling that people are trying to sell slabbed coins on ebay for grossly inflated prices simply because it's slabbed. I guess they were hoping to fool people into thinking if it's slabbed it's something really good.

Standard catalogue of world coins (2011).. XF adjectival = $300

Eh, people put over priced stuff on ebay all the time. I have no idea how rare that coin is if at all ect so no clue what it should go for. But there is only 1 of them graded by pcgs like that. The PCGS cert could be very rare and bring big premiums in SA, I dont know enough to say it doesn't.

Or they could have paid close to that for the coin and hoping to get the money back. Only takes 1 person to say yes to the price.

For what its worth theres more over priced raw coins on ebay than slabbed as you cant try and over grade a slab

Couldn't agree w/ "For what its worth theres more over priced raw coins on ebay than slabbed as you can't try and over grade a slab" more. Not all, but the vast majority of coins seem to be over-graded. And "RARE" :-)

It just goes to show that if you cant grade a coin yourself you
are going to get ripped off at some stage

When looking for slabbed coins, I check the PCGS/NGC websites for values and previous auction apperances (PCGS) and make my offer apporx. 1/4 less than the posted values, and go from there.

It depends on "eye appeal" more than the slab itself.

The second thing I was taught about coin collecting was "learn how to grade".
