Picked up this nice $1 British Virgin Islands antiqued brushed bronze finish coin minted in 2010. I'm not aware of any other coins minted with this particular process. The finish reminds me of a brushed brass door knob, with clear brush marks and hairlines in the fields, a darkened "antiquing" around the devices and lettering, and intentionally minted as such. It is a very nice high relief design, and the coin has great "feel" in hand at a diameter of 38.6mm and a weight of 28.3 grams. The coin design was also minted in 0.925 Silver proof finish with a denomination of $10.

I moved this thread to the World Coins section, since it's not technically a "British" coin.

Personally, I don't like this trend with some mints these days to produce "pre-antiqued" coins, especially the "brush-stroke effect" (created by pasting on some darkening agent then only wiping off part of it). I prefer to buy coins in brilliant metal finish and let them antiquify naturally, all by themselves. But, that's just me. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, as they say.

What "trend" are you referring to? I have never seen another world coin with such a finish. Can you reference some other coins that have used this technique? I have seen the "antiquing" approach taken on some medals or medallions, but not on other coins...

Yes, the RAM's "Town Halls" series was one I was thinking of. Most of the others I'm thinking of are medals made by smaller privte mints.
