I recently learned that I have a relative who fought for the 56th Virginia in the Civil War and was injured (but survived) at Pickett's charge. As most of our posters have listed early commemoratives I will show a modern I feel has a really appealing design. 1996 Smithsonian If I were to choose an early commemorative it would be the 1915 panama Pacific $50, a coin of my dreams since I was a kid.
