Hello Experts,
I would appreciate any feedback on my ebay buying strategy listed below. I am new to buying coins on ebay and exclusively collect pre 1900 European coins.

1) research about selller negative and Nutreal feedback on toolhaus.org. Look for pattern in buyer negative feedback on grading , shipping and overall communication. Also how long the seller has been with ebay and total number of negative and neutral feedbacks.

2) research about the coin on sale on NGC world price guide and Krause catalogs. Get a rough idestrategy much the coin worth and see if the ebay price is within these values.

3) I prefer sellers who list the coin weight and diameter as well as any additional attributes such as wear, cleaning etc..

4) listing with clear pictures of both sides

Any additional feed back is greatly appreciated,

Plonker

I dont know anything about the type of coins you are collecting but as a general rule

I only buy slabbed coins on ebay, I want pictures of front and back as well. If I find sellers where everything goes well and I like I try to stay with them when possible too.

As far as price I would use completed listings to see what theyre going for to see if its reasonable or not, but in the end its up to how much you want to pay for that one

I just discovered the NGC price guide and really like it. You can also check the completed auctions section of ebay to use as a rough price guide.

I also view all of the other items a seller is selling.

I like to see that they are consistent in their offerings. If someone is selling a valuable coin along with a bunch of household knick-knacks it makes me suspicious. Or if they are selling raw coins that have a reputation for being faked, like Chinese Silver Dollars, USA Trade dollars, etc. . .

But if they seem to be a professional or amateur dealer with a niche that they specialize in, that makes me feel a lot better.

Good point. Forgot to mention I also would be more likely to buy from actual reputable places who have an ebay store like a david lawerence and have had good experiences so far buying from ebay listings of members of this site
