This is a close-up picture of a small black dot that is in the hair of a 1921 Morgan I own. I bought this coin several years ago, it had the spot when I got it & it has not changed size any. The coin is in an older PCGS slab. Any ideas of what the spot is? Would PCGS slab a coin in MS grade with a spot like this, or did it occur after slabbing?

a spot has nothing to do with condition of the coin, if its uncirculated a spot isn't going to change that but it can make the grade lower Mint State than it would if the spot wasn't there

That's not a large enough spot to materially affect the grade. Judging from the cotton boll and hair over the ear, that's a pretty nice strike for a 1921. Can you post the whole coin?

As to what the spot is it could be anything. Dirt, Silver Oxide or just about anything else. If the grading service didn't remove it I wouldn't worry about it that's for sure.
