OK, I intend to start the next 'smack down' this evening but I'm suffering from a bit of indecision!

I thought I would list a few thoughts on the subject here and get a bit of feedback before I finally decide.

Ideas:

1. As the London Olympics are now in full flow we could have any coins minted in London. Nice timing but I'm not sure if everyone has London coins.

2. Again Olympic inspired - 'Higher, faster, stronger', the Olympic catchphrase, could be for any coins with a sporting subject.

3. 'It would have been perfect but...' we should all have one of these, coins that are great but have an awful floor like a hole or something like a great obverse but poor reverse. Could be difficult to score!

4. Constantine - any coin of. A basic one but should enable a lot of entries and an area I think is all too often dismissed as 'boring'.

The rules, format and scoring will follow what Anoob set out in the last one and the final decision if two coins have the same score and the same number of golds will be the hosts choice.

Any thoughts or preferences welcome.

I think #4 Constantine would be a 'shoe in' and we would see a lot of great coins.

#3 is also interesting. How would you judge, best one side with worst other side?

Yeah - we should all have one and its an area that gets very little 'love', I bet there are some gems out there.

I guess judging would just have to be very subjective - perhaps the 'best of the worst' and the 'worst of the best' could confuse judging.

I wouldn't have anything to post for 1 & 2, I have plenty of Constantine's though. So my vote would be for Constantine.

I have coins to post for #3 and #4, so I will vote for either of those. I like the #3 idea.

I have coins for all four categories, but I like the Constantine idea best. I think we're asking for trouble in judging for number three, and I do believe there will be fewer entries in numbers one and two. So, my vote is the Constantine's. I would also narrow that down to just Constantine I and not include the sons or father. But your call - your choice.

Just constantine the great? Id like it to be all of them, Constans, Constantine I, II, Constantinius and etc. You'd get much nicer coins that way.

I like 3 and 4, but the first two are way too closed.

bobbyhelmet,

Thank you for doing the smackdown, you pick and stick with it. No one will be to unhappy with your decision, if they don't have a coin, they can wait for the next one, which I had to do once.
This is just for fun and you have a great bunch of guys doing it........so whatever you pick will be the right......

Not a bad idea, it would keep it more focused. Someone can always do a different Constantine in another Smackdown.

I'll restrict it just to the 'old man' himself.

This means we can still have his sons either together or apart in later SDs Ben.

<---- Also chiming in late...Great Topic....Some thoughts for next...

1) Funny wear patterns or patina developments... for example a guy with a black eye , wear that looks like a funny nose, or fat lips, crazy eyes, weird expressions and the like. I saw in the smackdown, the funny eyebrow, you know stuff like that.

2) I like enemies of Rome we will see, alot of cool stuff.

3) Really bad guys on coins, Kills family, enslaves people, people who are known in history for their cruelty.

4) People in history that where nice. Who did things to help people. I know one of the guys had a quote to the effect of how evil deeds seem to live for ever and the good deeds go to the grave with the body.

5) Ancient coins other than Roman coins accepted by the Romans as legal tender.

6) 2 Headed coins. 2 on one side, one on each side.

7) Divine objects. Statues, Occult items.

8) Snakes.

9) Your best coin. Everyone can enter and every one has a vote thats cool and you will see all kindsa pieces. The skys the limit.

10) you fatest coin.

11) Oldest coin.

12) "Newest" - Closest to end of circulation for that empire. Closest to 475 AD. Closest to 1452.
