I had a few clad halves today, and was in a hurry to dump them. I ended up dumping them in a Coinstar. They went in fine, but I somehow threw an Ike in there too. The machines say they don't take Ikes, and they're not kidding! It kept rolling around inside. I finally got a manager to come get it out.

She opened up the machine, and I got a good look at it. It doesn't have bags like a bank coin counter. Every denomination has a steel box, which can only be opened by the armored truck driver. There is a reject cup inside, which had the Ike, and some really bent and mangled dimes and cents. No silver at all. It was pretty interesting to see.

The armored car company must just change out the metal bins in the machines, then roll the coins back at their facility.

Has anyone ever put an ike in a counter on purpose so they had an excuse to have them open it to check for rejects? I have considered it, but never actually done it for fear that I might lose it.

When I used to work in the store I would have to open it up sometimes. It used to just be one big box that would just hold all the denominations unsorted.

I found a treasure the other day in a CoinStar's reject slot: a 1952-D silver Roosevelt dime! All that looking finally paid off!

Coinstar sure rejects silver. I found a Seated dime, 3 40% Halves, and a couple of 64 rosies.

According to many on here, the Fed rolls the coin not the armored service. What gives?
