I've read that it is not so common, but I'm averaging between 18-22 per box. My bank in NJ is getting their roles from N.F. String & Sons from Harrisburg PA. The boxes so far have been good. Their nickel roles have also been good. I'm going to keep buying roles from them because their supplier seems to be giving out good stuff. My bank does not however, have half-dollar roles. I'm trying to convince them to order for me. I'm also trying to get them to let me look into their Coinstar/whatever brand coin machine because it does collect halves. Any good advice on how to approach your branch to have you look through/buy the bags from the machine?

Searched a box of pennies today, netting 15 wheaties. Found a 1955 poor mans DD(well, it's not really a DD_), and a 1944S. The 44S is not valuable, but I'm happy to find any of the older S coins as those are the ones which are missing in the cents album I'm making for my older boy. Those S cents seem hard to come by on the east Coast. Also found a few Canadians, one from Panama and one from Barbados.

Quote: Any good advice on how to approach your branch to have you look through/buy the bags from the machine? Good luck with that. You could try begging, and I'm serious. Too many roll hunters abusing bank generosity, finding the bag is short, and returning to complain. Personally, I buy bags of halves from my credit union, off the machine. The lead teller always tells me up front, that "we DO NOT guarantee the bag count."

No problem to beg, and I understand that about every bag I would get will be short so I wouldn't complain about that and I also wouldn't dump them back on the same bank; I can split between two. I have pretty good relations with my main bank, so I'll pop the question. I assume you are buying full bags, correct? Also, if the bank is not used to selling bags, how do they technically sell you the bag? Are there any internal issues they face like the coin machine count, selling a bag, etc..? Is it a simple transaction for them where the machine count doesn't matter and they can sell what they want?

It's normally a simple xaction selling a bag off the machine, same as buying a bag of customer-rolled (loose) coin in a bag. It normally gets shipped out with the courier, in a sealed bag. I know some hunters have bought partial bags also, but then again, they (bank) know me and I don't think they sell to just anyone off the street, even an account holder.

Sjh, I would not recommend dumping ANY of the coin youve bought back at the same bank, if you meant splitting dump between the buy bank and another branch. I don't even dump at a different branch of same bank, as word gets around between them.

Got through box 1 of 2 of Lincolns: - 21 wheaties. - Oldest found 1910. Also found a 1918 but already found this date last week. - Two from the 30's, including a 1937 that looks like it was once dipped in gold. - 7 from the 40's. - 10 from the 50's, with a semi-red 52 S.

Two more boxed searched. 41 wheats with a few in the 20's, and a decent red 1957. Not the best, but at least I filled 4 or 5 holes in the kids album. 16 Canadians. In the post above, I found another 21 wheats, with a 1912 when I searched the second box. Chocolates given to the tellers, so I can keep on the good side. I also talked to someone at the bank about buying the bags from the machine. He didn't see a problem. i'll hit the manager up tomorrow.

Searched a box of pennies tonight, and a good box it was. 43 wheaties: -1917 -1920,29S -1934,34D,35x2,37,38x2 -1940,41,42x2,44x2,45,46,48,49 -1950,50D,51D,52,53,53D,55x4,55D,56x5,56D,57,57Dx4,58
One of the 1955's has a clear doubled 5 in the last 5 of the 1955.
I usually pull 18-22 wheaties a box, so this was good for me.
Pulled a few red 1960's coins too.
14 Canadians, with the oldest being 1951.

wow, it seems I may be late to this party but I dont have collections to fill, I just keep what I find interesting, wheaties and steels (steelies?) and put them in my coin jar.
im moving in october and wouldnt want to start on such a huge project as trying to collect every year from all mints (D,S,P?) I'm debating whether to find a box of pennies to buy or get a few rolls of dimes, it seems as if buying boxes of pennies are mainly for collections rather than trying to find silver as you would with quarters and dimes

It all depends on the reasons for doing coin roll hunting. I do focus more on the pennies and nickels because I am collecting. I'm building two sets each for my boys from the coins that I find. I also fill plastic coin tubes with 50 cents of each year/mintmark for pennies, and also started tubes for the nickels. I also look for those elusive semi-rare or rare dates. CRH is a part of my coin collecting hobby. I do collect/buy at shops and shows for the four main coin denominations that I am currently focusing on. CRH is however fun and inexpensive. Maybe someday you can get a cheap folder or two, and give those coins that you find a nice home.

ive had no luck with CRH lately, I just got through 12 rolls of dimes and found a lot 2000-2012 in uncirculated condition which would be nice for collecting, but I'm more about the silver, I seem to find my silver in my registers at work that ill switch out for a normal up to date coin if I get the chance

Haven't posted any searched box results lately. Found a bunch of wheaties over the last 2 or so weeks, but nothing of consequence. Searched a box of pennies today. 14 wheaties with the earliest being 1936. Also found a 1946 & 1958D red/brown. Also pulled 7 red or red/brown cents from the 60's. Found 12 Canadians with the oldest being 1951. I did have an unusual find. Found a 1933 English 50% silver six-pence piece in a penny roll. Silver in a penny role? Go figure.
