I just won one of these at auction and thought I might have overpaid since it was a spur of the moment bid. The damage was $56 shipped. Too high? About right? What do you think?

Not too bad. They go for anywhere from $55 to $60. This one looks to be $55.

Thanks, Lib. I've paid a lot less for the 2001 and 2003 colorized Maples so I thought I'd lost my mind bidding this high on a coin I didn't know much about.

Yup; good price.
C/A are offering it for $115 (was $80 in Feb 2011).
Issue was $40. This series is amongst my favourites too.

I got the 2001 Autumn coin for $60 when silver was at around $40 or $45. It seemed like a good deal at the time. Right now this series is very stable in price. I may consider completing this series once I'm a bit more flush. I hope you got the green case and certificate of authenticity. For a shipped coin you did very well.

Quote: I hope you got the green case I believe that this one was issued in the red cassette case.

Yep. It "comes in capsule inside easel display of issue with outer sleeve and Royal Mint Certificate of Authenticity #20834". I just cut and pasted the auction info. But I haven't actually seen the box yet.

Price sounds about right, with shipping I think you did very well. The only ones that have really gone up are the 2006 and 2007. The 2007 is my personal favorite

Are those scratches on the coin or the capsule? They don't align with the normal texture of the field.

looks like scratches on the capsule since you can see double in the reflections
i just sold 2 of the summer one (2003) for $138 shipped, so yours, though not a steal, is fairly priced I think.

shopaholic,
I'd be surprised if they're scratches. The seller has never sold me anything that wasn't NM. But I won't know for sure until the coin arrives, most likely later today.

The designs are very good, especially those red maples.

Po had it right. No scratches. It was actually a fingerprint on the case. Wipes right off. But I did see two small milk spots, which seems to be the curse of many $5 SMLs.
Anyway, the same guy has a 2004 up for grabs. Any idea what that particular year usually fetches at auction?
