Hi everyone. I am fairly new to collecting errors. I noticed that for a lot of Large Cents in the Cherry Picker's guide consist of lapping lines. I have a few questions on lapping lines, you don't have to answer them all. What are they or how are they created? Why do they increase the value of the cent so much? Most curiously, If I notice a lapping line on a coin and it is not listed in Cherry Pickers does that mean it is a rare variety?

A "lapping line" is an older term for die polishing marks.

I have never heard the term lap lines and if it is die polishing lines then the answer is no, it would not be worth more just because of the die polishing lines. It actually may decrease the value is they are severe

What does a lapping line or a die polishing mark look like on a coin, please?

I'm not aware of having seen one.

Are there photos or scans ?

it xn look like the coin is harshly cleaned to the untrained eye, the only difference is the die polishing is raises where harshly cleaning lines are incuse into the coin. It can be very hard to tell what you are looking at and takes a definite trained eye to know what you are looking at
