I've shot a couple images of an ancient, here at the Philadelphia show, on behalf of CCF member bpoc1. He's unsure of the attribution, and I'm completely helpless. If possible, could someone identify this coin?

SsuperDdave,
looks like a Septimius Severus denarius... there will be more on the way I'm sure...

RIC 32: Septimius Severus Denarius. 194 AD. SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP III, laureate head right / LIBERO PATRI, Bacchus standing left, holding oenochoe, from which panther to left reaches up to catch a drop, & thyrsus.

It can be either RIC 27 or RIC 32. Both are considered scarce.

I was correct the first time. It is RIC 32. The difference between the two is IMP II for RIC 27 and IMP III for RIC 32. The OP coin clearly shows IMP III

Thanks a bunch, guys. You were so quick that bpoc1 had his answer before he had to leave. This place is incredible, overwhelming. I'm a kid in a candy store.

This is actually pretty nice for Rome mint Septimius of 194 AD. They are usually on small flans with missing legends so one with all the parts is above average. RIC 27 is a different type. RIC 27A is the IMPII Liber but I don't have one to show. All IMP II Rome coins are relatively scarce (I only own one). IMP III like this are easier to find. In 194, Septimius was out East fighting wars so most coins of that year seem to be from the Eastern mints.

Thanks all for the attribution. The coin belongs to a friend that has asked me to go through their collection to place an insurance value . So what would be the value? Is it silver? SsuperDdave, it was really nice meeting you and all at the show. It was overwhelming to say the least.

This coin might be worth about $75-$100 IMHO. There are two on acsearch.info. One is in better condition selling for $135 while the second is in about the same condition as OP coin selling for $95: http://www.acsearch.info/record.html?id=322283

bpoc1, Very cool that you can get an almost instant attribution of a coin from any where around the world. There's some one on here almost 24/7 to help you out...
