First let me say that I am sorry the pics are not better.

I am thinking about purchasing this dollar. I don't mind the chop marks. I know there are a lot of fakes. Does this one look real? Any obvious alarms? How much would you pay? Any help that you can give is appreciated!

I can't seem to tell if there are 4 or 3 fingers holding the olive branch. Everything else seems to match the Red Book. I would pay $250 - $275 for AU58.

AU-55 details and it looks genuine. There should be a substantial drop in price due to the chops.

First impression of this coin .. it does not look right

If chopmarks did not bother me .. and cleaned did not bother me ..

which if this coin is real .. it has been cleaned

I would feel better buying something like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nice-1875-s...em35bedc0c3b

Before I bought that coin.

I do think if you wait for the right coin to come along. you might find a nice XF/AU coin in the +or- $400 range

They are asking $129.00. I actually want a chopped marked dollar. Just want to make sure it is looking legit. With the cleaning added to the chops I would like a "great" price. I am thinking I may be able to talk them down to $90-100. What do you think?

I would only get a TOP III TPGed Trade dollar which identifies any issues; cleaned, bent, etc...

I think what everyone is trying to say ..

Trade dollars are one of the most faked coins out there.

This coin does not look right. Maybe because it looks cleaned, but it could be fake and cleaned.

I would not buy this coin unless I knew I could get my money back if it turns out to be fake. Be 100% sure you can get your money back .. IMO there is a very good chance this is a fake coin.

I've had many Trade dollars over the years. I love the coins with the chop marks if they are genuine as they are a piece of history, actually trading in the orient and passing through the hands of merchants and banks. The photo you posted looks right it does not have the obvious faults of the modern counterfeits. The Chinese coins do not come with album tone as that piece has. It has contact marks not seen on the counterfeits that I have looked at. Yes it is chopped and yes it is cleaned. But the price reflects the faults. I paid $100 for the coin sitting in my 7070. It was raw and it was priced right. I will not avoid every raw Trade dollar because of the number of counterfeits. Get to know your coins and you will not have a problem. Those that told you to avoid this coin need to tell what they see that is not correct.

My 7070 Trade dollar. Cleaned and chop marked AND genuine.
