I went to a bank that I have several accounts in and as I do every week asked to buy all the cwr dimes and quarters which this week turned out to be only $10 in quarters and $15 in dimes So I get to a nearby park and am opening them up there is a dime on each end the rest of the roll the idiot has filled with pennies this was the same with all 3 rolls The good news I returned them and showed the teller who promptly refunded my $15. Even better she remembered who turned them in and plans to have their account docked

I will definitely keep an eye out for that. I am glad to hear you got a refund and I'm glad they know who it was.

santafeboy,

i have that happen to me on NUMEROUS occasions. I received $50 like that and almost did not have it refunded. becuase it happened to me AFTER I left the bank, its kind of the RISK we take as coin roll hunters. so when I receive my coin we go through it together... not opening them all up, but you can feel it and see them on the ends. I lost about $100 to CHASE becuase of it...

Obviously check the rolls first. Wouldn't work for me as I pick up $700-$1,500 in cwr at a time.

the tellers are CHASE do not look through the rolls when they ghet them, however, they should visually inspect each roll, especially the ENDS, which is how they get these dime/penny rolls to work. they shotgun them. makes it easy to spot. plus they are a little thicker..

I recall reading a sad story about the veteran teller that was fired because she received coins in this fashion without checking. The bank totally blamed her and she was out... I'm glad you were refunded the difference.

Why is it that Australia is like 20 years ahead of the rest of us? Must be the timezones and the beer. :)

A few weeks ago I had about $45 out $90 worth CWR filled the same way! I returned them right away and had no problem getting my money refunded.

The teller figured out who had brought them in and confronted the guy. He of course blamed it on his teenaged son...

This wasn't at my dump bank. My dump bank varies from branch to branch. Some give me empty bags to return loose coin while other branches will only take BWRs.

Other branches will send out the coin to be verified which can take up to 7 days! BTW - I don't do this.

Lesson learned is I am much more cautious with CWRs now!
