Any one getting the new Platinum eagle or collect the platinums?

I dont have any of them myself but love the designs on them especially this year.

The 2010 and 2008 are beautiful too

I haven't purchased any but have seen many of them in person. They are much better looking in real life than in photos.

I buy a lot of bullion but focus on silver for a few different reasons. I do think I will buy one eventually just to have it in my collection.

Thats even more tempting now hearing they look better in person than the pictures. Id love if they would replicate the designs with a silver version but understand why they dont

They were "affordable" in the 1997-2008 run of proof APEs, especially with the fractional sizes. 1/10th oz coins aren't too difficult to find, however, the tiny size of the coin (16.5 mm) makes the reverse details quite hard to make out. The 1/4 and 1/2 oz. while larger than the 1/10 oz. are also much scarcer, generally running in the 1,000s of coins in the latter part of the run. The changing reverses only happened on the numismatic coins, not on the bullion versions. The series as a whole is under appreciated, and in hand they are much nicer than photos indicate. Tough, and highly collectible coins.

Im not a big fan of the 1/10 because of the size but the 1 oz definitely are pricey at the moment. Do you remember what they went for back then? Like how much potential lost value is there if metal returns to those rates? I do like the 1/2 ounce which could be a nice first purchase.

But I agree after looking through them definitely under appreciated for their beauty

basebal21,

Back when they had the two coin set PR and Rev. PR, I got the set, sent to PCGS, PR came back 69 and Rev. PR came back a 70, it was a beautiful coin..
I think at the time it was around $1600 for the two coins, put it on ebay sold it for $3300. I couldn't believe it. The guy emailed me and said he could sell the Rev. PR for over $3800 at that time, wonder what there worth now...

The pop reports have to be real low on the 70s for these
