Something old. Imagine from the late 50's or early 60's. Sticker on the inside indicates 30 minute fire rating at 1598 degrees. Gotta love the art deco hearts on the ring. Interesting that both ends have handles. Safe weighs an easy 40 pounds. Safe is sitting on top of some pine boards. The pine will be used to replace wood on a cast iron park bench that we purchased yesterday. The pine is sitting on top of the new to me desk for coins.

Nice buy. Hope it came with the key. Is there a brand name on it anywhere? John1

Nice safe. Doesn't look like used a lot either. Sure worth a lot more than what you paid.

Is that meant to be mounted in between studs in the wall? That could be pretty cool to have a safe behind a picture like the bad guys in the movies.

A safe hidden behind a picture frame! Stack those gold and silver vertically.
For $5, I need to visit garage sales...

I thought it would go between floor joists. Like DeNiro's safe in Casino. Looks like a nice find for $5.

I am going to clean it up a little and see if I can locate a manufacturer's name.
YES...the key came with it.
I imagine this could be mounted in the wall or the floor. Drill a couple holes through the sides to run a screw or ten through...and you are set.
For some reason, I like the krinkle finish that was popular. I have a Montgomery Wards safe that has the same finish.

Cleaned up and inspected the infamous "box". No tag indicating the manufacturer. But, there are two tiny holes on the inside of the lid that looks like the spot for a tag to have been placed.
Now, I will need to decide what to do with this.

I have an old safe that's not too different from yours. It still has the original letter that came with the safe, saying Thanks for Buying, etc. It describes the construction of the safe, most notably containing sheets of asbestos sandwiched inside the steel walls. I personally wouldn't drill such a nice safe anyway, but the possibility of kicking up asbestos powder would definitely make me stop. -wheatiefan
