This bill was in my Dads collection, it looks like a fake or reproduction to me. Any opinions? Is the photo even good enough to tell?

Is there any way to tell for sure? There was a link from a few posts down to a Confederate Notes website. I went there but couldn't find any definitive way of knowing if it was a copy or real. My bill just seems kind of cheesy.

Thanks for the link scoutjim99, interesting reading. I compared my serial number to the list of known fakes & it didn't match. Looked at the note a little closer & it appears that the serial number & the signatures are hand written in a brownish ink. Maybe it is real. This is where I could use a good local coin/note dealer, even a third rate one would beat what I have now.

Thanks for posting that, coldshot! A most helpful link!

I bought a Confed $1 1862, serial number 355 from a scratchtray for a few dollars long ago; later, a dealer friend who was evaluating my collection declared it a fake. Though I was pretty sure he knew what he was talking about, I'd always held a glimmer of hope that maybe he was mistaken... but there it is, in the list of fakes. Sad but true. At least now I know for sure.

Great links, guys

I found one of my pieces, a Republic of Texas note in there. It's one of the listed numbers.
