Anybody like colonials? Picked this up at the Philly ANA show, and repatriated it back to the city where it was printed! Anyone have an idea how to grade these?

I Like everything when it comes to old money, they just scare me. I watched a video where they said that the British counterfeited and flooded the colonies making them nearly worthless. Washington was quoted as saying that a wagon load of script could scarcely buy a wagon load of provisions or something like that. So I personally would never buy one even though I think they are very cool. I'm sure there are ways to tell the fake ones, but I wouldn't know what those ways are.

The important thing to remember was that those were contemporary, circulating counterfeits, not reproductions made in China last year to cheat you. Early money collectors trade them right alongside the originals; the reason they were made is as much a part of American history as the originals. If you were to discover a note you had collected was a contemporary counterfeit, it would hardly be worthless; in fact, you'd probably gain some sweet bragging rights! Eric P. Newman wrote a terrific book on the Early Paper Money of America, with a large appendix describing the circulating counterfeits. Most are of the Continental Currency put out by Congress; there seem to be no known counterfeits of this provincial colonial note.
