I feel sorry for the people who paid $600.00. Thanks for the article.

I agree the hype caught some whacked into thinking it was worth 600. Maybe they can sell it and take a tax write off for an educational expense ! Does anyone have the numbers for the amount of other error coins found such as the wisconsin leaf errors, the speared Buffalo nickels and others of the Statehood Quarters etc? For those that haven't read the u s mints press release ! http://usmint.gov/pressroom/index.c...lease&ID=755

I've read a number estimating 100,000 no inscription dollars struck. Also about 15,000 extra leaf quarters of both types combined (including mine.)

I think all 100,000 are on ebay right now in the error coin section, I hate it, 100,000 extra listings to go thru to find the real "major" error coins that I'm after. this will slow down soon and the quote of 50 bucks, lol way too common for that to hold. I'll stick with the one-of-a-kind major mint errors that exhibit awesome eye appeal. errorcoins

Amazing, I have an AU 1888 3 Cent nickel that has an entire mintage less than these errors and I paid only a $100.
I guess it's like what P.T. Barnum says "a .... is born every second"

LOL I just bought a PCGS MS65 P T Barnum 50 cent piece, not for Barnum but for the cool art deco eagle on the back...the that bird certainly stands out for it's eagle reverse in US coinage. error

Just looking at the current auctions....and they all have spiked...must be the news stories lol The news says there are a whole bunch, but the public hear error and go to ebay and spike the price. For some reason they didn't hear the part about a whole bunch of them. I still stand by my earlier statements that this is waaaay toooo common of an error to hold these prices. errror

This is a primary reason why I tell everyone who comes to me for advice NOT to buy a new discovery right when it comes out. Give it some cooling-off time, and if the prices are up or still strong, buy then. If you lose out on something that goes up because you waited, you'll be far ahead of the game for all the times you didn't become the stooge by buying a common error for big bucks.

Anyone hear anything about the distribution of them?

It's hard to believe that prices of these coins are so high. I always thought an item had to be both scarce and desireable to have value. It looks like they aren't scarce. The other half of the equation is an individual preference, but they don't do much for me.
