I called one of the larger dealers in the area to get their buy prices. AGE were $4 over spot, Gold bars were 2% below spot. Are those prices pretty standard?

In this area of the country, ASE's sell for $4-5 over and dealer buy is $1 over spot, bars around 5% below spot.

On gold, dealers usually pay below spot for bars and about $20-25 over spot for 1oz AGE's while selling at $65-85 over.

I check APMEX's buy-sell prices before doing anything bullion related.

Good advice. I would also call around to the local coin, pawn, and jewelry shops to see what they would offer for gold bullion. You can do this pretty quickly from home, so driving around and using a lot of gas is not necessary.
