Thought I had an 1837 plain cord small letters, but now I don't think so. I have two that are lower grade, so there are no discernible hair cords. On the first one I think I can see a tiny bit of a bead, so chances are it's not PCSL. Also, I have a head of 38 that I'm fairly sure is an N10 as it has a tilted first T in STATES.

TIA
Rob

Is this N5 or N11?

The second one is definitely N-5. The arc crack through stars 3-7 says it has to be 4 or 5. N-4 has large letters, this coin and N-5 have small letters. The last on is N-12. It is a beaded cord with small letter reverse, that makes it N-9 through 12. the key feature is the position of the 7 over the denticals. On 9 it is just about between two denticals. On 10 it is over the right side of a dentical. On 11 it is over the left side of a dentical. On 12 it is almost directly over a dentical.

I think the first one may also be N-5. It looks like the obv is cracked through stars 6 and 7.

Thanks Conder!

This would be much easier if I had higher grade coins! I usually don't seek out the die cracks for attribution because in most cases, they are not apparent anymore on my coins.

That tip for the head of 38s is really handy.

Looked at the first one again and yes, the crack is there, faint, but there. So now I have two N5s!
