nice haul Steveo
there seems to be a variety with the placement and amount of "extra rim", are some more common than others?
one of mine has about 70% extra rim centered around 4 o'clock, the other is well centered with 100% extra rim... does this effect value as well as condition?

Thanks for sharing those with us Stevo, I'm sure they will be a rewarding investment, not to mention a pleasure to collect. Pieces of , pieces of ...

Steve -Oz 50c the well centred coins seem to attract a premium but I think the emphasis on value is condition as always
No problem Mr Unicorn I have 1 more in transit to me as of today

When I purchased mine I was not as hung up on the grade as it being centred. Because I wanted it for the error, not just value I wanted to see the whole double rim. Well centred coins definitely seem to attract a premium on ebay from what I've watched.

I remember one collector who was buying as many as he could. This was perhaps 5 or so years ago. He was calling them a 'blue chip' investment. At the time they were around the $400 mark. Unless you have an EF+, I believe that is pretty much what they are still going for. The better quality are a good investment, but I will stay away from the really high priced Uncs. There may be few of those around.
I was lucky, I found 4 and won one in a raffle.

My thought is that the market probably hasn't matured for the mule yet. They have been around for less than 10 years since their discovery and no one knows how many there actually are. At one stage it was thought that there were only approximately 400. Now it seems there are a lot more of them. Some people are sitting on hoards of them and they will eventually find their way into the market place.
I have got one for my collection, but I think it is too early to say whether it will be a good investment.

How many do you think he has erkle? Its the fact that I'm sure there are several similar hoards out there that makes me cautious at calling them an 'investment'.

im guessing at maybe $400 in the 3 tins, I've never had a tin full of $1's so not too sure of the exact amount.

Thats a lot of mules for one person to be holding and then selling when they retire.
