ive now just become aware of coin cleaning and its techniques, and I'm afraid my 1964 Kennedy half dollar has been brushed, as I'm holding the coin how can I tell for sure its been brushed?

im gonna take it to the jewelry store near wherei work before work today and ask them if it looks to have been cleaned to them

i just looked at it again and theres a small spot on two parts of the back of the coin that seems to have a mirror finish, ill see if I can get a picture of this

Look for hairline scratches or an unnatural coloring. Compare it to a coin you know has not been cleaned.

heres the best up close picture I could, sorry its a bit shaky my hand shakes a lot but you can clearly see the reflection of my light under the D in the word united above the left wing

im about to upload another one of some hairline scratches that could be evidence of brushing, if this coin is cleaned should I get my money back for it?

I can't really tell what's goin on in your first photo, but those lines above the arrows could just be die scratches/filing marks. They are common on many issues and especially on 1964 Kennedys.

On 64 Kennedys, it might just be that they just aren't dirty. Many went right from the bank and into hoards.

@errorcoins222

if you look around the D at the end of the word "united" you can see some mirror finish with that light beige reflecting off of it

nothing looks fishy about this coin then? I'm assuming with the brushing technique youd see uniform brush marks and more than what I see on the coin

Just how much did you pay for that coin? Sort of a nice coin and may or may not have been cleaned but not a lot of info to say yes or no. And for a rather common coin, I wouldn't worry about a little cleaning if it really was done to that coin. If appears to be in fantastic condition so don't worry.
