I came across this about two weeks ago and I still can't figure it out. I know it's a die clash but not from a Lincoln Cent reverse. I know it's a word but can't tell what it says because the coin's to worn . The only thing I've got after two weeks is a headache. The area I'm looking at is located from the top of Lincoln's head (in his hair) through his forehead and across the field in front of him (12 o'clock postion the the 2 o'clock postion). Any help would be appreciated. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b..._/1941-P.jpghttp://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b...nCent002.jpgEdited by empfan1 03/08/2007 9:31 pm

That is a pretty cool die clash! I wish the coin wasn't so worn so the word could be seen. I'm not an avid cent collector yet. My father plans on leaving me his penny chest when he dies. He has an army ammo trunk with over 50,000 pennies in it. I can't muster up the energy to go look through them, it seems an overwhelming task.

I am leaning towards a planchet lamination peel. I dont see how a clash can be on the raised devices since they are incuse on the dies and those parts of the dies could not contact each other, only the fields could.

Thanks for the pic of the reverse ,
Im also leaning toward something other than a die clash ,, only what I think is not as nice as bio's thoughts.
post mint damage , perhaps an attempt at some type of counter stamp.

I was leaning toward lamination peel at first, but it's looks to symmetrical. I didn't think about a counter stamp, but wouldn't it be sunk into the coin itself?

My bet is on an unusual lamination that hasn't peeled. I've seen others on wheats.

Simple case of lamination. It often occurs in strips and can have just such a jagged appearance. No real premium value, they are very common.

If this were a 1944 cent the two vetical lines would be farther apart. It's a 1941.
