Those are so tough to grade because you rarely see them in that state. I'd say VG-10.

Pleased to see the coin arrived safely ... and indeed to the amazing, fun, fabulous and tough chase for these tremendous coins in circulated condition.

I'm going VG08 for this lovely 1926-S Oregon Trail ... honest coin with honest surfaces and wear.

Well done HONDO.

so, were these Halves circulated in commerce as $.50 or is it more likely a pocket piece?

and, nice coin!

This one appears to have been a pocket piece with all that wear.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
This coin has quickly become one of my favorites that I own. It oozes history, plus its just a phenomenal design... I LOVE the reverse.

John R, some of these did circulate, but they were not intended for circulation. In this coins case, I would bet pocket piece. Which is just very cool to think about. Who knows what its seen or where its been.

Cool coin! I'm really enjoying seeing these circulated pieces. They're not something I'm currently pursuing, so I'm collecting vicariously through other CCF'ers!
