Absolutely!
I think the Mint is foolish for not doing so!
It would be a Cash Cow!

Guess you're hoping they are reading the forum? (as we all know they are)

Actually, I'd like to see them open a boutique in Ottawa that wasn't inconveniently located on the outskirts of downtown in an area that has no walking traffic and where the vehicle traffic is discouraging and parking scarce.

But seriously, didn't the RCM effectively open boutiques in just about 6,000 postal outlets all across the country?

BTW, they used to have a kiosk in the Rideau Centre shopping mall years ago but I don't think it survived for very long. Maybe a shop on Bay or Front would work but don't expect to see anything in Etobicoke anytime soon. JMO.

The do have a dealer in Richmond Hill with a pretty decent showroom. They will sell at release price until the coin sells out at the mint.

That place is faaaaaar, though. And somewhat pricey. Location.

Postal locations are inconsistent, too. They don't have the kind of stock that they have online.

I hope that was a joke. I find Ottawa extremely walkable, and love the walk from the Hill to the Mint.

The selection varies greatly at the ones in downtown Toronto. Some great, and others very poor. It would be great to have a full stock Mint boutique in downtown Toronto.

It's very odd that the Mint doesn't try to boost collecting all it can in the economic engine of the country. And, it would seem to be a natural to sell money as a gift to bankers and brokers.

^^^ The benefit is that sometimes you can find a bargain, where they are clearing out stock.

Yup centre of the universe. But isn't that really Alberta now? Maybe we need a boutique in Fort McMurray.

There is virtually no walking traffic that far down on Sussex compared to say the Market, Sparks Street or Elgin. Sure you can walk down to the Mint, but you will meet three people on the journey and spend 15 minutes doing it from the Hill. My point was that the Mint and it's boutique are not in the downtown core nor convenient to the majority of NCR residents who don't work or live within walking distance. Franky it is far easier to order on-line than it is to drive, try to park and shop at the RCM boutique. If you were trying to find a retail location in this city, you could not find much worse that 320 Sussex.

That said, I'd be happy to have an RCM retail location in every major location in the country if it help collectors buy and expands the hobby. I just don't think it makes a lot of business sense to invest in brick and mortar locations. Just my opinion.

Besides, isn't that the niche that dealers, including the POs, fill?
