The 2001-S Sacagawea Proof went from $100 down to $80 now I was hoping that one would hold its value for the long run I remember when it was up to $120 consistently for a long time !

I dont know a ton about this coin but prices in general are just down with the economy. The less extra money people have to spend on things the lower the price will go. If we can get back to where we were about 6 years ago Id imagine the price rebounding

It would not surprise me if it has not reached bottom yet. It really isn't a scarce coin and it isn't even the lowest for the series.

Your link to the article above I just read the other day and I think the article is very well written and has sound advice and reasons behind the collapse of the 01-S Proof. Condor's point above is well taken: this proof was hyped as a key date for years, but later proofs are lower mintage, so really the 01-S is a common date, not a key date. It's not even a semi-key date- mintage is roughly 3 million!

It was originally considered a key date, but prices have crashed because of later dates being lower mintage. It would not surprise me at all for the 01-S Proof to crash to $50 or even lower. Raw examples can be picked up now for $10-15 range.
