I recently purchased a Disney medallion on ebay (Disneyana is my wife's and I shared hobby so I decided to try combining my two hobbies in an effort to get her interested in coins).

I got it for pretty cheap but I haven't been able to find any information about the origins of this item. There is no date or manufacturing information that I can tell on the medallion.

The edge is stamped with "r SOLID BRONZE". I assume the 'r' is some sort of mint mark but I don't know where to begin with that.

I would really like to try and find out when and who made it if possible (a date range is fine) and possibly what it sold for originally and if it was maybe part of a series or something. Anything more than I know now would be wonderful.

Here are some details about the medallion:
25g solid bronze
1.5" diameter

I'm afraid I don't know much about this medal, but we can perhaps determine a date range from the things that are featured on the medal.

The old Mickey-Mouse-globe-inside-large-D logo was retired in 1996. The old "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" submarine ride (pictured in the "Fantasyland" quadrant) ran from 1971 to 1994 (since rebuilt and rebranded as the "Finding Nemo" ride).

Perhaps most significantly, the EPCOT Center and "Spaceship Earth" sphere, one of the most iconic structures on the site and surely featured on any similar medal made today, are not depicted; this would date the medal to before EPCOT opened in 1982.

Conclusion: it would date from the 1970s.

I don't think we can be sure it predates EPCOT as it only depicts the Magic Kingdom park. There are no references to Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios/MGM Studios. I agree with everything else you said though. But I was/am confused about the 20,000 leagues ride on the fantasyland portion. Wasn't that ride in EPCOT? It was before my time so I don't have a clue.

The logo was the one used at the time of the opening of Epcot. I would date this around just before the opening of Epcot.

In case anyone is following this post still- I believe my father bought this at the park circa 1987.
