Sorry, but I couldn't post a picture of the coins. I have two coins, one gold with no words, only a design of a plain shield with a line through it and a loral wreath underneth. Atop the shield, there is a single dot. This design is on the averse and reverse. I also have another coin that is silver or plated a silver color. It has a shield design with lines through it and the words VORTEILS MUNZE surrounding the shield. I can't find where these coins are from or when they were made. They look fairly recent, probably made in the past 30-40 years. If anybody knows anything, help!

I'm not having much luck Coingirl, sorry. I think I've figured out that the Vorteils coin may be German, and I think Vorteils Munze means "advantage coin" or something like that. Just using an online translator is all. The German coins and provinces are quite vast. Hopefully Sap will come along and be able to help.

If there's no inscription for the denomination, they are most probably not coins but tokens / medals.
"VORTEILS MUNZE" is in German translating something like "advantage coin" (as tights said)
So my guess is that it is from Germany or Austria, sorry I can't help with any more details.

Neither of them sound like a coin to me, though the second one is definitely in German. My German dictionary defines "vorteil" as "advantage, benefit, interest, profit, gain". "Munze" (more properly, "Münze" with an umlauted U) can mean either coin, medal or token. I would suggest "bonus token" as an equivalent English phrase. Certainly there are plenty of "bonus tokens" around; presumably this piece served much the same purpose.

A Google search came up with this one on Delcampe; the seller says it's Swiss. Here's another of the same type on some kind of Hungarian eBay-clone auction page. They seem to fit your description, but are lacking in detail or information about what they are other than "tokens".
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
