hey guys, I bought this sexy looking silver piece from South Africa for just $1.50 along with many others for the same price (below melt) but this is in the best shape. What do you think it grades at? I'd say somewhere between XF and VF. Thanks

Nice pickup for only $1.50, it is a semi-key date and melt value alone is currently about $2.20. That said, I don't think it would grade better than F-15.

I would put it at good VG or low F and I think you paid about the going rate. I had a really nice Unc 1927 South African sixpence I sold this week for $60. Your coin only has mintage of a bit over 500,000 which is pretty small IMO. Its a shame there isn't more interest it would probably save a lot from the melting pot.

Im totally against melting any coins regardless of value and metal, especially not nice ones as this one.

thanks for the responses, I really enjoyed reading all of your thoughts. This coin is sooo beautiful and unique, I've decided to leave it in its holder while ripping open the other ones that are in very bad shape to add to my pot of silver :D. Pretty neat how they have a high purity of silver though.
