You're very welcome!

I just took the gold set back out of the safe and fondled it a bit let my son look at it again. Definitely something to make the trip more memorable...

When I was in DC in July, I stopped at the store in Union Station (while the wife was upstairs shopping) and got the 2012 Proof and Silver Proof set.
No tax on purchase.

Cool about the tax. I ask because I knew tax was high in DC and also because I found out recently that there is tax on Bullion in New Jersey but not in PA. And in California, where I am residing now, bullion is taxable unless I spend $1500.00 I am wondering now do they sell ASE in the stores because they dont't from the web site.

I live near DC and was unaware these stores had opened up as I mentioned previously. I have a Dr appointment in DC on wed, if I get out of there in time Ill try and swing by the store and get a check on the inventory for those that are curious

Just an update for everyone. Stopped by the store today. There is indeed no tax. They have almost everything currently being sold on the mint website but I didnt see any first spouse gold of platinum eagles. The pucks they had looked amazing. I had a 100 dollar gift card from a present with me and picked up the coin and currency set as theirs on display looked flawless. The one I got not so much. Had I seen it there I would have returned it.

Basically everything they had on display was perfect, and didnt see any bullion ASEs

How do they do it? You buy $1500 worth of stuff (Coins and bullion) or you pay sales tax. Otherwise the shop owner has to pony up the tax out of his profit margin. Which pretty much leaves him no profit for paying the rest of his expenses let alone anything for himself.

This is why bullion dealers in sales tax states tend to lose a lot of sales to out of state dealers that don't have to collect sales tax.
