I have seen bu/ms/sp/proof for a full title for this coin. One 3rd party co. has labeled it as a proof, ICCS has called it a sp, & I have not checked with PCGS.The RCM has told me for certain it is not a proof & if one must compare to some past minted coin, the sp is closest. It is a new technology & in which registry set will the coin accurately fit? The finish is applied matte in the recessed areas. When one sees the term matte he automatically thinks matte proof. A matte proof coin is struck with acid or mechanically treated die. On this matte coin the finish was selectively applied after being struck. The RCM also made note that the price also does not reflect that of a proof coin. My personal feeling is that definitely not a proof and the coin was struck on a ms planchet and maybe a little more polished as with a sp. Were they dbl. struck? I doubt that also, but not sure. The question remains as to what the accurate 3rd party grading term should be?

The silver double dated proof 25th aniversary coin I believe you are refering to on Gatewest's site lists the finish as Glass bead on field.
I think this is a new finish coin that I will have to have a look at. Pure silver is my faverite.

As with most Canadian coins they are eye appealing. I am not totally sure where the glass bead finish term came from but it is being used frequently. I did not ask the RCM as to how the finish was done. 15K is not a super large mintage but each dollar collection will need one. The mint website has some nice pics and some of the pics have been transferred to ebay lots for sale. I hate to see the grading companies using different terminology on a slab, which can create cross-over problems.
