I believe the muttonhead is a "mailed" bust variety, with vertical lines coming down from the shoulder. You sure this is a muttonhead?

Agree.
Does not appear to be a "Muttonhead" type.
Better pictures needed.

Well I thought it looked much like this http://stacksbowers.com/auctions/Au...LotID=235099
My uncle is a coin enthusiast and couldn't find anything else that resembled the coin other than the muttonhead in his book

See what I mean about the "mail" on the shoulder, and how it doesn't look like your bust's shoulder?

I see what you mean. Maybe something along the lines of this.

Based on the back of the coin it looks similar to a lot of connecticut coins and since I live in CT and this was passed down to me by someone who has lived in CT all his lie I can't see it being another state. Am I wrong on this assumption?

Actually, the Vermont portrait coppers were designed to look as much like the Connecticut coppers as possible. The only intentional difference was the abbreviation VERMON to the right of the bust, instead of CONNECT. Maybe some closer pictures outside the 2x2 would provide enough of an outline of the devices to try to match it up to a variety. Doesn't look like the lettering will be visible, though.

Well I think I solved it. It is pretty pointless to post picture but looking at the reverse is looks like "AN" on the upper left near the head and "I" on the middle right. I googled the reverse of the coin and it is known as britannia. Come to find out that this coin was modeled after a coin from britain which has the same reverse but with different busts for their leaders. http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces13081.html
The diameter of the coin is 26mm. Mine is 24-25 but there is a massive amount of wear on the coin. The CT and Vermont coins measure in at 27-28mm which makes it more likely to be a british coin

The coin in your link is one of the British coppers that the Connecticut and subsequently the Vermont coppers were trying to mimic. Even a decade after independence, many Americans still thought of this design as "money," and coiners were worried they would reject a coin unless it had the lady on the back (even if you didn't call her Britannia), and the bust on the front (even if it wasn't King George; the American busts weren't portraits of anyone in particular). Your coin seems to have the remains of a date visible; if we can read it, we might be able to rule out a Connecticut or Vermont issue conclusively.

that matches even better with the 3 being higher than the 7 and the numbers are in the correct places
