Have a look at this 1960 Type B Reverse quarter. It appears to have a dieline, lamination line or ? starting below the LI in LIBERTY, going down through the last T in TRUST, turning around above the 19 in the date, going across the neck through the back curl up to below the Y in LIBERTY. What would you call it? TIA Harvey

Do you mind posting a picture of the reverse?

To me it looks like the planchet had a chunk of the surface missing before minting. I've outlined (sort of) the area involved.

I can see it on the back, too. It is almost as if something other than a planchet fell between the dies and created a clash.

I just noticed that there are also "die lines" on the reverse of the quarter. Above the last R in the word QUARTER going up to the tailfeathers and another going up above the arrowheads through the left wing to the top of the left shoulder. See the pic.

It might be a planchet that was defective BEFORE the coin was struck. Any other ideas? TIA Harvey

I see a little more than you describe on the Rev, yellow lines indicate the difference, almost looks like a circle above the R DO:

Nancy, You're right, there is more on the reverse. I think the lines were on the planchet BEFORE the coin was struck. If the lines resembled an image of the obv or rev it might be double struck, but its not. I'll have to show it to Randy Campbell (currently with ICG) next time he shows up at our local shows to take ICG submissions....

looks like a partial, maybe rotated die clash ? Try Mr Mike Diamond, Robert Piazza, Jason Cuvelier or Robert (BJ) Neff?

My bet is on struck through thin extra planchet material that fell off. Design would still appear under the extra material. I have other silver coins with similar markings. Lines existing on planchets before strike would tend to smooth out under pressure.
Rest in Peace

Harvey I guess you're tired of plain type B quarters. Now you want extra stuff on them. Hah. Hah.
Hope this one has something else good on it.

Hey Numismo,

I'll bring it to the next WPB meeting for you to see. I also want to show it to Tony and ask him what he thinks it is..

If I remember, I'd like to show it to Randy Campbell the next time he shows up at the WPB show to accept ICG submissions...
