The note on ebay has been completely wiped with acetone on one side. Taken all the ink & window off. I can assure you.

Hi Goatieman,
What are the usual telltale signs that acetone has been used to "blank" a note - is it primarily the window being damaged?

Quote: What are the usual telltale signs that acetone has been used to "blank" a note - is it primarily the window being damaged? Seeing a second note of this type had shown up, I'm wondering the same: does the solvent leave any residual smell, and would it be difficult to keep the solvent to just the one side that they're trying to make as the error - would it bleed onto the other side somehow? I'd thought it plausible that it could be a genuine error type, but a second - totally different note at that - makes me suss on them. I can't imagine the checkers missing this type of error twice: after all, it would have affected a whole sheet.....

Well done enworb! Now the big question is - to hold or to sell? Pedro

Oh.... It seems I used the word 'found' when I actually meant 'manufactured' That took me less than a minute with a tissue and some acetone. There is no doubt in my mind what so ever that those ones on email are made exactly the same way. Hope no one here won either of those auctions because if you did you could have had the same thing for $5 + a little acetone and a tissue. I will not be selling these but I have to admit at $700-1000 a pop I can see why people do it.

Oops - not so well done! I presume it smells at present - would be interested to hear whether the acetone smell disappears or not in a few days? Presumably it must do or buyers of these notes would twig something was amiss. The buyer of the first note was happy and gave positive feedback. Pedro

Acetone evaporates very very quickly. Within 5 seconds it was dry. I didn't smell it when I did it but just tried then and there is no smell what so ever. The buyer may be happy now but if they ever try and sell it to a dealer they wont be so.

Give it a go pedro. For $5 I think its worth it to educate yourself on how easy it is to manufacture.

Lots of con artists with just as many if not more idiots who buy their stuff without doing any research.

Maybe this is another 'manufactured error' that erkle might be interested in listing on ebay to identify the items as the work of con artists. It might inspire the 2 buyers to ask for their money back.

That was my first thought yesterday Nancy, when Enworb posted his handy work LOL I thought that would be perfect for Erkle to do a listing about.
