Brand new to collecting coins. I've done some coin roll hunting and bought some "junk" silver. I'm considering getting my feet wet in coin collecting with silver ike proofs. I like the look of the coins, silver, and few coins needed to complete the set. I'm still very much in the research phase and would like some guidence. What are pros and cons with silver prook ikes and 40% kennedys?

Ikes are a fantastic series for beginners and expert collectors. Of course, as a member of the Ike Group, I'm biased towards them. Look for attractive pieces that are problem free. You can get them in TPG plastic or raw. If you need any help let me know.

Theyre as good a coin as any to get your feet wet with especially since it sounds like you already have some of the set completed.

"I like the look of the coins,"
That says it all, dhjunkie43, "Buy what you like" is common advice here and it is good advice. Pros and cons? Ask 10 people and you will get twenty opinions! If you like, BUY! Do not worry, as long as you pay reasonable prices. As for what is reasonable ... THAT is why research is important! Do your homework and proceed with confidence. These coins are not going to break your ... well, you get my meaning?

Ikes are a great place to begin! They are a short series (but not too short) that are not too difficult to assemble a full set for a reasonable cost. There are many ways to get a set. You can buy a complete set right off the bat, or collect them more slowly. When I started collecting I decided to start with Ikes for the reasons listed above. I chose to collect my set from buying mint sets. That way, I KNEW exactly where all of the coins came from, and that they had truly never been circulated. The toughest ones to find in good condition are the '71 and 72 business strikes. The mint did not put Ikes in mint sets for the first two years, so examples had to be pulled from circulation. My set is complete except for the '71-P. I'm picky, and have not found the right coin yet. Welcome to the boards! Collect what you like and enjoy this hobby!

Ikes are great for starting! With fewer dates to collect, you can focus on the quality of coins more. Keep us updated with pictures as you progress!

Coin collecting as a hobby should be FUN! So what ever series you enjoy collect. No wrong way to collect as long as you get some joy from what you collect.

GREAT starting point! This was the second series I set my sights on collecting, and it is the only one I have finished up so far. This thread shows my complete set... https://goccf.com/t/100901Go for it and have fun!
