Good on you, Benny - welcome to noodling.. It can become addictive, so watch out The buzz of finding a rarity in change makes all the searching worthwhile. Sometimes a rare coin can be in the change from the shops - how many here on CCF have found a dollar mule or incused 50 cent that way? Others go through thousands and thousands of coins to get what they are looking for - and sometimes still can't find that elusive coin It's a good idea to get a catalogue, and list all the rare serial combos for banknotes on a little card, so as to carry in your wallet. That way you can quickly check if that note you receive in change is worth keeping or not, such as a VG95 $50, or a PE94 $20, just to mention a couple. Solids and radars are pretty much self explanatory. Remember, the 2012 notes are out in a couple of denoms. and a xx12 345678 is a juicy possibility!

If the $50 LM 09 333 233 was in good condition I might keep it. If it was a lower denomination I would definitely keep it. Not really worth anything but still cool.

The notes are crisp like new out of the atm - I'm trying to uploading a couple of photos to photobucket (on my phone) so can see what you guys think of the 20c defect

Went back for 2nds and ended up getting a couple more coins glad I went back :)
20cents 2001 Queensland 2003 Volunteers
50cents 1981 royal wedding 1998 bass & flinders 2000 royal visit
I wonder if my luck can continue soon I might have the full collection that I am aiming for :) I will say that not all of the coins are in good shape some look like they have been burnt etc maybe a good clean can fix them, but in other ways it gives a little bit of character to them :)

Quote: 2001 Queensland You're luckier than I am.... That 2001 QLD 20 cent is the only one I haven't been able to find - in over 15,000 coins - I had to buy one from a coin dealer... I had a Vic and N. Territory in today's lot of 500 20c coins. No QLD, of course! What state are you in? Look out for 2010 Coat Of Arms rotated 50 cent if you're in NSW - seems that's the place for them

I am in nsw and so far have come handles today I think 4 of them, only keeping the better of the coins except for coins that have a commemorative and coat of arms for the same year, I think it was 1981 50cent I kept both the royal wedding and normal coin.

Benny85, you will be sorry for getting into this addictive pasttime. No seriously, it is fun. Get to know your bank tellers and let them know you collect "unusual" coins and notes. Looking at the serial numbers of notes you receive will cost you. Recently, I hit the atm for some money to buy groceries etc, and ended up adding 2 x $50 notes to the collection because one was a prefix number, and the other's serial was MB 999999398. Can get costly.
